What are grass paper labels?

As the name suggests, grass paper labels consist of 50 percent grass. As this raw material grows back particularly quickly and comes from uncultivated fields (private compensation areas), the grass label paper is environmentally friendly and conserves resources. Also, considerably fewer chemicals and water are used in the production of grass labels. All in all, grass paper labels cause a significantly lower CO2 footprint and provide an ecological appearance due to their rough surface and natural coloring. Also, the grass paper is compostable, recyclable, FSC®-certified, and approved for direct food contact according to ISEGA.

Green labels for your environmentally sustainable office

Conservation of resources, energy efficiency, and CO2 neutrality are among the primary factors driving purchasing decisions of the modern consumer. Consumers and manufacturers who pay attention to their ecological footprint – from content to packaging.

Grass paper – the green solution for labels and packaging

As awareness of sustainable paper production continues to grow, so does the global demand for paper as a raw material. To reduce deforestation and long distance transportation for raw materials and paper products, recycled paper is usually a logical first choice. However, the resulting ecological ramifications turn out to be complicated: To separate the inks from the paper fibers, numerous chemicals and a large amount of water are needed.

Grass paper labels in different forms
Grass paper labels are the organic alternative

We, the company Endisch Labels e.K., take our responsibility for the environment
seriously and have been actively committed to resource conservation, CO2 savings, and sustainability, for many years. Now we have decided to take the next step and expand our
product line with a real, sustainable alternative to classic labels: Grass paper labels!
The material consists of one half sun-dried grass and the other half FSC®-certified pulp. In
this way, the consumption of fresh fibers is minimized and the resource wood is
conserved. However, the paper is particularly ecological due to its environmentally friendly
production: For example, the rapidly renewable raw material grass is obtained from local
fields – compensation areas that are unsuitable for food and feed production. These can not
only be harvested several times a year but are generally located close to the paper mill. The
short transport routes further improve the positive ecological balance (reduction of C02
emissions by up to 50 percent).

We are the first manufacturer of grass paper labels on DIN A4 sheets for self-printing. Perfect for small to medium quantities. Our customers remain flexible and can reprint labels as needed. The labels can be printed with a digital printing system, such as a laser printer or color copier. Inkjet printers are unsuitable.

50% of water can be saved in production of grass paper labels

Favorable ecological balance due to a significant saving of resources

Since half of the grass paper consists of fresh fibers, the water requirement during
production can be considerably reduced. That means: Only one liter of water is needed per tonne of grass fiber fabric. For comparison: The conventional production of wood pulp requires several thousand liters of water per tonne. This optimized production process can save up to 80 percent of the necessary energy. One ton of grass fiber pulp uses only about 150 kW/h – one ton of wood pulp 40 times as much.

Furthermore, the purely mechanical manufacturing process of the raw material requires neither mineral oil nor chemical additives. This means that grass paper is hardly contaminated and is suitable for recycling or composting without restrictions. In this way, valuable resources are conserved, critical raw materials are returned to the recycling cycle, and the burden on the environment is  significantly reduced.

What is organic should also be packed organic

Grass paper has no undesirable allergens or dermatological side effects – several scientific institutes came to this conclusion based on a study (what study?). Further research confirm that grass labels are suitable for use in the food sector and they may come into direct contact with food. Grass paper label material has been awarded ISEGA certification for food safety.

Organic products should also be packaged in a organic way

The natural coloring and structure of the grass paper make it stand out; the grass paper material ensures a unique, natural look and feel of the labels. The green-brown color and the rough, uneven surface of the paper have shown to evoke customers’ thoughts of organic, natural, environmental, environmental protection, and sustainability. Companies that use our grass paper labels communicate their responsible approach to the environment and sustainable brand values at first glance. Your products are given an authentic and environmentally friendly appearance.
